For the past five years, in what has become an annual event, Afternoon of Praise singers and orchestra members from diverse congregations across Alabama have spent months practicing before gathering with Dove Award nominee Richard Kingsmore at Talladega’s Historic Ritz Theatre to produce a professional Christian concert and praise experience.
The event raises funds for The Red Door Kitchen and The Samaritan House, two charitable organizations that provide necessary services to those in need in the Talladega community.
These organizations depend heavily on the money raised each year by Afternoon of Praise, so the public’s support is needed and appreciated. This year’s concert will be at The Ritz at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 20. Come prepared to praise God, enjoy music, and to support organizations that help those in need in our communities.
Ticket cost is $20, and are available from Afternoon of Praise singers and orchestra members, at First United Methodist Church of Talladega, 256-362-2891, or at The Ritz Theatre, 256-315-0000. All ticket money will go to The Red Door Kitchen and The Samaritan House.

“We are thrilled to be able to present these two concerts by Black Jacket Symphony, who have built a huge fan base in this area through their regular appearances at The Ritz over the last three year,” executive director George Culver said. “Our experience has been that if anyone sees one Black Jacket Symphony once, they will definitely see another.”
“I want to urge all Black Jacket fans in the area to act fast to get their tickets to as soon as possible, because almost 40% of the tickets are already sold. Black Jacket announced the Fleetwood Mac show at last week’s performance at the Ritz of Journey’s Escape, when concert attendees were offered a presale-purchase opportunity before tickets went on sale to the general public today. This level of advance sales was amazing, which indicates to me that both concerts will sell out earlier than usual – and all Black Jacket Symphony concerts at The Ritz are sell-outs.”
“Rumours” was Fleetwood Mac’s most critically acclaimed and commercially successful album. It won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1978. The album has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, making it one of the most successful albums of all time.
Culver said “Fleetwood Mac has stood the test of time, and their music continues to enjoy wide popularity today with regular air-play on radio stations across the U.S . Both August concerts will feature the entire “Rumours” album as the first set, then after intermission Black Jacket will perform virtually all of the group’s greatest hits during the second set.”
