THE SWAMPERS present JACKSON NANCE

Inspired by renewed international notoriety fueled by the hit 2013 documentary Muscle Shoals, the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section has decided to tour. This is an historical event, and The Ritz got a coveted date.

Undeniably one of the most revered sets of studio musicians in American history with over 75 Gold and Platinum albums to their collaborative credit, The Swampers were immortalized in Lynyrd Skynyrd’s classic rock anthem “Sweet Home Alabama.” Always unique to The Swampers was the amazing diversity in their perfected styles – American soul, R & B, rock and roll and country — yet who to front the band on tour with comparable genre diversity became the big question. They found him in 16 year old musical prodigy Jackson Nance, the youngest singer/songwriter/artists to ever sign with Warner Chappell Nashville.

The Swampers and Jackson have already released one single, “It’s a Swamp Thing.” Underwritten by the AL Department of Tourism, the song serves as this young man’s homage to these hit makers of some of the most popular recorded tracks of all time. Here’s a concert story line not to be missed – new talent and veterans, young and old, a teen and Baby Boomers, a perfect balance of inspiration and innovation for the 21st Century based on the tried and true “good old music” that still hasn’t been topped. It is a unique Southern story that is told each time this multi-generational band hits the stage to serve up its bubbling, swampy brew of classic hits and brand new material from Jackson with a fresh twist.

Don’t miss this live concert and be proud to be from Sweet Home Alabama.

MARK LOWRY & THE MARTINS in Concert with STAN WHITMIRE

A concert that features five multiple Dove Award winners, all stars at the pinnacle of gospel and Christian music, is certain to be a landmark experience is the rich history of The Ritz’ Marquee Gospel Series.

mark-lowry-gospel-3Conducting the evening is none other than the renowned Mark Lowry – singer, storyteller, author and songwriter whose lyrics to “Mary Did You Know?” resulted in one of the most beloved modern Christmas songs of this century that has been recorded by over 400 artists of every musical genre. Lowry collectively spent more than 20 years as the baritone singer for the Gaither Vocal Band, and continues often to play the sidesplitting comedic sidekick for Bill Gaither at live concert tours dates and on the Gaither Homecoming videos series, now more than 150 volumes strong. The inspired, never changing ingredient of Lowry’s performances is his gift of communicating profound truths through music and storytelling that keeps audiences of all ages on the edge of their seats.

Siblings Joyce, Judy and Jonathan Martin rose to national and international success showcasing their stunning and distinctive harmonies, often in unforgettable a cappella. The Martins are regulars on the Gaither Homecoming videos and their unmatched, perfect sibling harmony has been performed at the White House, Carnegie Hall and concert venues around the world.

Holding the evening together with musical accompaniment will be legendary pianist Stan Whitmire, whose 2009 Dove Award was for Instrumental Album of the Year. Stan too is a frequent collaborator on the Gaither Homecoming videos, often tours with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, and has had way too much fun touring with Mark Lowry in concert and on video shoots since 2003.

AMY — Special Screening

AMY is a complicated and tender movie about multi-platinum, multi-Grammy recording artists Amy Winehouse. It was the break-out sensation at last spring’s prestigious Cannes Film Festival with reviews like “a tragic masterpiece,” “brilliant,” “heartbreaking and unmissable.” This film that captures the very heart of a musical genius mushroomed into an ‘event release’ with record breaking runs in London and major cities across the U.S. The film’s critical acclaim and documented broad appeal makes it a certain Oscar nominee and odds on favorite to win the 2016 Best Documentary. With two Ritz screenings, this a groundbreaking motion picture not to be missed.

The Willis Clan

A series of notable achievements over the last few years created the perfect storm that catapulted the trailblazing, Nashville-based family band known as The Willis Clan into the forefront of American entertainment. Fueling their rabid popularity is the unique mix of talents among the twelve Willis siblings, ranging in ages of 4 to 23, who have quickly matured into seasoned performers of country, bluegrass and Irish music and who can clearly hold their hold with the most seasoned musicians performing today.

After over 40 guest appearances on the Grand Ole Opry, the Willis Clan firmly established themselves as Opry fan favorites. This visible platform helped them win the national search by the NBC Network for the Next Sound of Music Family. Their performance of a bluegrass-infused “My Favorite Things” on the TODAY SHOW was willis-clan-2acclaimed, followed by over 6.4 million views on YouTube. This landed them on America’s Got Talent where, as quarter finalists, their unique sound garnered a broader national exposure and caught the eye of executives at TLC Cable Network, who felt this wholesome all American family with inexhaustible talent and three album releases under their belt was perfect for a reality series. The series was fast-tracked, and last May TLC launched The Willis Clan. The show that captured behind the scenes in their chaotic life on tour while balancing a life at home was a hit – and renewed for a second season.

The Ritz is lucky to have a secured a booking of this amazing musical phenomenon in their national tour prior to cameras rolling once again for the second season of TLC’s The Willis Clan in spring 2016.

Admission is a tax deductible $15 ticket donation and a bag of non-perishable food items. All proceeds from ticket sales go directly to The Red Door Kitchen and all non-perishable food items collected go directly to The Samaritan House – Talladega, Alabama. If you pay by check, just make it out to First United Methodist Church of Talladega and put Afternoon of Praise on the “for” line. Your cancelled check is your tax deductible receipt.

“The Red Door Kitchen provides over 36,000 meals per year to individuals who for whatever reason are unable to prepare a noon meal,” said board chairman Billy Sparkman. “This is a tremendous blessing to our board members, our staff, and our volunteers who deliver the meals each day and we are tremendously thankful to our community for supporting this ministry. As the largest single donor to Red Door Kitchen last year, the Afternoon of Praise made possible the continuation of our service to the Talladega community and we cannot say THANK YOU enough for all the love and support this program provides.”

Charles Montgomery, president of The Samaritan House – Talladega, Alabama, said “The food collected at the Afternoon of Praise is the second largest food collection we have each year. Because of the influx of canned and dry goods, we do not purchase any food from the Community Food Bank for a couple of months and we can use those savings to help more clients with delinquent utility bills.”
